Holiday Gift Guide

Holiday Gift Guide

Do you ever struggle to find gifts for your child? As the holiday season approaches, we put together a few of our favorite toys and games for children of varying ages and developmental levels. If you don’t find what you need within this list, visit the suggested websites and you are sure to find something that your child will love. When looking at toys, consider your child’s interests, goals, and how the toys and games may help support communication, play and social language. Toys with multiple parts are excellent ways to facilitate requests for additional parts by name and choice making, while toys with a clear beginning and end are perfect for early learners who benefit from short, predictable activities. Books present opportunities for a shared activity with an adult, sibling, or friend and also provides opportunities for commenting, labeling, finding items within the scene, and predicting what might come next. Books that have corresponding character manipulatives or sensory components can increase interest too. Games that incorporate recreating a 2D picture model or matching pieces to a game board can support generalization of identical and non-identical matching skills that may be a part of your child’s therapy goals and can take it a step further by incorporating turn-taking and imagination. The best thing is, there is always room for adaptation! There are so many ways that children learn through play, which is why play groups and social groups are a component of every child’s program at Accelerate ABA.
