Frequently Asked Questions
What does ABA therapy look like?
ABA sessions are individualized and look different for each child. At Accelerate ABA, we prioritize teaching skills in the natural environment. This is commonly known as natural environment teaching (NET). In the natural environment during play and common routines, your child can learn expressive and receptive language, imitation, social skills, and improve their fine and gross motor abilities. We believe that your child will make the most progress while laughing and having fun!
Discrete trial training (DTT) is another method of teaching that is used in combination with natural environment teaching. DTT is a teaching strategy characterized by breaking down complex tasks into small, teachable components.
How long are therapy sessions?
Duration and frequency of services vary based on age and need. We provide half-day and full-day services that take place each weekday. Recommendations on number of hours will be made specific to each child following the initial assessment.
Do you offer services in the home?
All of our services are clinic-based but carry-over of skills to the home and community is critical to success. Caregiver collaboration is an integral part of each child’s progress. The Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) who oversees your child’s program will meet with your family regularly to share progress and discuss ways to generalize treatment in the home. The BCBA can also support skills and behaviors specific to the home environment. Caregiver training can occur in person or via telehealth.
How will I know what my child did during a session?
In addition to the discussion at pick-up, a detailed session note is written after each session. A session note is comprised of a narrative summary and all data collected during the session. Each session note is available via the parent portal on our online data collection and scheduling system.
Where are you located?
We are located between exit 8 and exit 9 of the Northway, Interstate 87, in Clifton Park, NY. Our clinic is a short drive from Albany, Saratoga, Latham, Schenectady, and surrounding areas.
Am I required to stay for the duration of my child’s session?
No, caregivers do not need to stay while their child is receiving therapy. Our office is conveniently located close to Clifton Park Center, coffee shops, and a number of grocery stores.
Who will work with my child?
Accelerate ABA is the only company in the Capital Region that requires all staff to be certified by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board. Each child has a team made up of one Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and 1-2 Registered Behavior Technicians (RBT). These professionals work together in a tiered model to provide your child’s services. The BCBA is responsible for assessing your child’s skills, developing a treatment plan, and monitoring your child’s program. The RBT works directly with your child, teaching all of the critical skills outlined in the treatment plan. The clinic setting allows the BCBAs and RBTs to engage in frequent collaboration and overlap during sessions to accelerate your child’s learning.
