What is ABA?
Applied behavior analysis (ABA) is the science of behavior and learning. Behavior analysis aims to understand how behavior works, how behavior is affected by the environment, and how learning takes place. While applicable across all human behavior, Accelerate ABA applies the science to improving the skills most commonly affected by autism spectrum disorder (ASD).
ABA is considered the “gold standard” of autism treatment. Decades of research have shown that intensive ABA treatment is the most successful approach for children with autism, and it is widely recognized by a number of sources including the U.S. Surgeon General, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the National Institute of Mental Health, and the New York State Department of Health.

APPLIED
It is important to prioritize socially significant behaviors for treatment. These are the behaviors/skills that will most positively affect a child’s success across environments.

BEHAVIOR
The behaviors/skills being taught need to be clearly defined. This ensures consistency across all those teaching the skills. It also assists with data collection.

ANALYSIS
Data collection is an important component of ABA. Data allows for ongoing progress monitoring and guides decisions about the future of treatment.
